thirty before thirty - #9

on january 21, 2012 i completed #9 on my thirty before thirty list - skate on the rideau canal!

i was in ottawa for the weekend with friends & had the time of my life. i actually ended up having to rent hockey skates, so that was quite the adventure - i always wore figure skates before & it had been over six years since i last skated! needless to say, at first i was a bit shaky on the ice but thank god T was in the same boat as me & J is basically a professional figure skater. love these girls for dealing with my screaming, shrieks & being so patient!

good news: i only fell twice. skating on the canal is not like skating in an arena, in case anyone was wondering. there were grooves and holes and bumps everywhere.
bad news: i still have the bruises on my knees to prove it. ouch.

all in all it was an awesome experience & definitely something i would love to do again. we skated a round trip of the whole four kilometers of the canal that was open & got beaver tails after the first four km - they were delicious. gotta love ottawa.
